About

Two friends started Raven in 2008. It is still building.

Raven Studios began as a partnership between Jeff Morris and Brian Foster, two engineers who met at work and became friends first. Today it is an AI consultancy and software studio in Dallas-Fort Worth, carrying on what they started.

The Raven name: Ra from Rachel and ven from Devin, established 2008

Where Raven came from

Jeff Morris and Brian Foster met at Empyrean Benefit Solutions. They hit it off right away, became friends, and soon became business partners. In 2008 they started Raven Studios together.

The name came from their kids. Ra from Rachel, Jeff's oldest daughter, and ven from Devin, Brian's son.

That was on purpose. Jeff and Brian were not just starting a business. They were building something to hand down, so they named it after the two people they were building it for. Raven was a promise to their kids. It still is, and every product and client we take on is part of keeping it.

In memory

Jeff Morris, co-founder

Jeff was a data architect. He managed the analytics development team at Empyrean, worked as an IT architecture consultant at IBM Global Services, and went on to lead data development at CenseoHealth.

We lost Jeff in 2016. Raven Studios carries on his legacy by doing what he cared about: building good products and taking care of the people who use them.

Who you work with today

Brian Foster leads Raven Studios and is the person you talk to. He started as a software engineer at Raytheon in 1999, led engineering teams in senior living software, and led product at a Y Combinator startup. He holds a BS in Computer Science from Jackson State University and has spent the last five years hands-on with AI.

No bench of juniors, no handoff to someone you have not met. The person on the first call is the person who reads your systems and writes the plan.

What does Raven build for itself?

Raven builds and runs its own products, which is the best test of whether we know what we are talking about. Software you sell to strangers has to keep working when you are not watching.

Does Brian teach, too?

Yes. In 2026 Brian mentored Dallas AI's Team 10 through the Summer program, and the team finished third out of 21 teams at the showcase. He was the mentor. The team built the product, and the credit for it is theirs.

He also writes AI for 40+, a newsletter for people who want the useful parts of AI without the hype, and runs the AI for 40+ workshop for groups that want to learn by doing. Details are on the training page.
